THE KEY IDEA

Opening margin does not by itself describe the full exposure or maximum loss.

01

Begin with the product mechanics

Write down how the product gains or loses value before looking at a leverage headline. Moneysmart explains that leveraged forex exposure can magnify gains and losses. This guide organizes questions; it does not recommend a leverage setting.

02

Locate the account requirements

Find the current margin requirements and automatic close-out explanation. Check which requirements vary by account or instrument. Keep examples in the documentation separate from conditions that have actually been confirmed for the account under review.

03

Read account labels carefully

Use the platform help to distinguish balance, equity, used margin and available margin. The cTrader conditions documentation describes broker-dependent stop-out settings. A software example should not be rewritten as a threshold that applies to every broker.

04

Keep unresolved questions visible

Record unclear terms and the relevant source version. Ask for clarification through an independently obtained support channel. Neither a displayed margin figure nor completion of a checklist establishes that a product is suitable or that a particular loss is capped.
