THE KEY IDEA

A financing figure needs its account, instrument and timing context.

01

Find the applicable schedule

Locate the current financing or swap explanation for the account and product being researched. ASIC Moneysmart includes overnight financing among potential CFD costs. Record the source URL and access date with the fee schedule.

02

Record the units and assumptions

Write down the instrument, direction, account currency and the way an adjustment is expressed. If a calculation cannot be reconstructed from the published explanation, record the missing input and ask for written clarification. Do not substitute another provider’s formula.

03

Check the time convention

Read the stated rollover boundary, time zone and any weekend or holiday provisions. Keep those details beside the quoted adjustment. The local date on a device may not be the date convention used in the source schedule.

04

Review dated observations

When researching a past adjustment, keep the dated account-history entry and relevant schedule version together. An observed charge is not a future quote. Keep financing, price movement and conversion adjustments in separate research notes.
